In this exercise, learn how to download and map GIS data in ArcMap. After downloading block groups for Los Angeles County, you will learn how to map different census data. This tutorial also covers how to perform a basic geoprocessing function by building buffers around a hospital layer. Finally, it covers how to create a layout of your map for printing and exporting purposes.

Importing GPS Points into ArcMap

This tutorial teaches you how to

  1. Import GPS points (from an Excel spreadsheet) into ArcMap.
  2. Demonstrates different ways to visualize the points using attribute data from the Excel spreadsheet.
  3. Create your own polygon shapefile and "connect the dots" from your GPS data to generate site areas.

Using Google My Maps

Learn how to use Google My Maps as a medium to create points and polygons on a map, and understand teh extensibility of the platform through its "collaborate" feature.

Furthermore, learn how to use Google Spreadsheets as a way to enter GPS data that can then be published onto a Google Map.
