StreetMap North America Locators 2008 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The StreetMap North America dataset provides several address locators you can use right away for geocoding addresses in North America. When you use ArcCatalog or ArcMap for geocoding, you can browse for the StreetMap North America address locators (*.loc files) found in this folder. See below for a general description of each locator. Street_Addresses_US.loc This is for geocoding in the United States when you have a street address or intersection address. The address input fields are: Street or Intersection City State Zip Postal_US.loc This is for geocoding in the United States when you only have a zipcode. The address input field is: Zip Composite_US.loc This is a composite locator for geocoding in the United States. The address is first passed through the Street_Addresses_US.loc. If it does not find a match, then it is passed through the Postal_US.loc. The address input fields are: Address City State Zipcode Street_Addresses_CAN.loc This is for geocoding in Canada when you have a street address or intersection address. The address input fields are: Street or Intersection Municipo Province Postal Postal_CAN.loc This is for geocoding in Canada when you only have a postal code. The address input field is: Fsa Please note that when using this locator, addresses will be matched to 3-digit FSA centroid locations. If the input is a 6-digit postal code (FSALDU), only the first 3 digits will be used for geocoding. Composite_CAN.loc This is a composite locator for geocoding in Canada. The address is first passed through the Street_Addresses_CAN.loc. If it does not find a match, then it is passed through the Postal_CAN.loc. The address input fields are: Address Municipality Province Postal Composite_NA.loc This is a composite locator for geocoding in North America. The address is first passed through the Composite_US.loc. If it does not find a match, then it is passed through the Composite_CAN.loc. The address input fields are: Address City State Postal Country Please note that if there is no Country field input, the address will not find a match using this locator. This locator should only be used for geocoding files with both U.S. and Canadian addresses. The files must also contain a field storing country abbreviations or names (i.e. US, CAN, United States, Canada).
